Poets, musicians and painters raved about “Florence on the Elbe”, and even today the Saxon state capital casts a spell over every visitor – be it because of its magnificent location in the Elbe valley, its fascinating art treasures, the incredible energy with which the old town, so badly damaged in the war, was and is being rebuilt, or also the Saxon-cosy way of life of its inhabitants.
